Superbowl party favorite includes guacamole and fun avocado facts

Posted on Feb 01, 2013 by Maggie LaBarbera

I am running out the door to buy some avocados for my Super bowl family party.

We can not have a party without some guacamole dip and some avocado pieces in our salad.  Avocados are one of the only fruits with mono saturated fats, a healthy fat found to help lower our cholesterol.  It is also NO salt (sodium), cholesterol or trans fats.  Super healthy and tasty.  You don't need a lot since it is higher in calories but you get a lot of nutrition in those calories!

Here is our simple family favorite guacamole dip:

You can buy hard avocados and let them ripen at home (at room temperature) for a few days.  A really hard avocado can take up to 4 days to ripen.  When it has softened, it is ripe and ready.

  • Take 4 avocados, peeled and pitted
  • Smash them in a bowl.  Then add the following to bowl and mix:
  • Finely dice 2/3's  small red onion and add to bowl
  • 1 small vine tomato chopped
  • finely chopped cilantro
  • salt and freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste

Some cool facts about the Superbowl party and avocados.
