The Whack A Snack Game:
This is a timed matching game that utilizes hand-eye coordination and speed to select the correct food.
  • At the start of each game, a key food is presented.
  • During the game, foods from the same group will be revealed.
  • Students must successfully click on a minimum number of the key foods before the time runs out. Minimum number and time limit increase as each round is passed.
Before the round begins, a key food is presented to the child along with the amount of that key food they must find to continue to the next round. When the child selects “Start” with their mouse, 9 food trays with lids appear on screen. The lids lift to reveal either the key food or another food item from the same food group. The child must correctly click on the key food before the lid closes on the food tray. To continue to the next round, the child must successfully click on the key food a minimum of the times designated at the start of the round.

  4. Guide the students to Whack A Snack where they will see a variety of foods from different groups.
Assessment:
Have the students come up and break up their favorite foods/or meals into the food groups that they belong to. Ask them if they notice a pattern. Do they have more favorite foods that come from one food group? Do their favorite meals feature foods from multiple food groups?
