Happy Healthy School Day teaches children about healthy habits

Posted on Apr 29, 2013 by Maggie LaBarbera

I just found out about this awareness day and thought I would share it with you.

Tomorrow is National Healthy Schools Day and has been around f

healthy schools day

or 10 years.  The goal of this day is to raise awareness about promoting an environmentally clean and safe school for children.  In other words:  a healthy school environment.

I usually focus on nutrition and activity but having a healthy environment is also an important part of promoting a healthy child.   Children spend  about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week in this environment.  That is a great deal of time.  So keeping their environment free of toxins an poisons that could harm their development or cause disease is very important.

This includes the air quality, water quality, chemicals and heavy metals used in the school like: cleaning solutions, pesticides or fertilizers, flame retardants, etc

We can all help in some way to improve the quality of our children's schools.  Here are some resources for:

healthy school environments

More info about this day:

National Healthy Schools Day is coordinated by Healthy Schools Network in cooperation with US EPA and promotes the use of EPA's IAQ Tools for Schools guidance as well as other EPA environmental health guidelines and programs for schools and children’s health.

Here is some of thier resources from their Media Kit:
