Martin Luther King Day celebrates an American hero who lead the civil rights movement. This is the time of year, that you will hear quotes from his great speech "I have a dream".
"I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream."
Well, we all have a dream:
We have a dream that childhood obesity rates will drop to below 1970's rate
We have a dream that all children will have access to fresh fruits and vegetables
We have a dream that all students will enjoy a healthy breakfast before going to school each day
We have a dream that all students will have a well balanced lunch that is tasty and filled with the healthy foods from the five food groups
We have a dream that all children will have a physical activity program each day in school
We have a safe place to have active play
We have a dream that all children will enjoy a family meal each evening where families can share the events of the day
We have a dream that children can enjoy some screen time without being bombarded with fast food and sugary food advertisements
We all have dream that childhood obesity can be reversed.
Nourish Thought for the Day:
Thank you Martin Luther King for showing us that through perseverance and tenacity we can make these dreams come true.
