Part 2 - Simple tips to increase your calorie burn

Posted on Jan 07, 2011 by Maggie LaBarbera

We talked about how to decrease some of the calorie intake, now about the other side of the losing weight equation:  increasing calorie output (burning up fat)
Remember, when you eat more calories (food) than your body needs, it will store the extra food as fat.  To get rid of that stored fat, your body will need to more calories than you take in, since it will be short "fuel" (which is really what calories are - energy for the body) then it will have to tap into those fat reserves to get the extra fuel.
If that happens consistently over a period of time -that means, weight loss (fat loss) and even better - smaller clothing size
Burning up calories:  this is what your body uses up
ways to increase your calorie output (fat burning)
  • do some housework
  • gardening
  • park farther away from your destination and walk
  • take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator
  • wear a pedometer and aim for 10,00 steps
  • walk briskly
  • fidget! yes you will burn extra calories
  • don't eat dinner late, it will slow down your metabolism since you are less likely to be active
  • go a walk after dinner
  • straighten up your posture, holding your core firm burns more calories
  • cook your own food (you will probably stand 30 minutes longer)
  • limit your TV time
  • add some spicy chili to your food
  • eat higher fiber foods, you will use up more energy
  • drink some green tea
For many of us, busy schedules and lives make it very difficult to monitor our intake.
If that is your situation, a planned diet that provides pre-planned meal plans may work best for you.
There are also some great and very healthy diets that will delivery your meals to your door.   A bit more pricy but will definitely help keep you on track with your diet plan.
