Materials:

Teaching Tips:
Have the student review the Interactive Food Pyramid or My Plate.

Procedure:
Lesson plans can be incorporated with any crossword puzzles from Elena's Crossword.  Some of the puzzles include:
  • Meals (breakfast and lunch)
  • Food Safety
  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • Fiber
  • Potatoes
  • My Plate
Using Elena's Crossword as supplemental learning material for these lesson plans reinforces the knowledge the students have learnt. By using the clues to solve the puzzle, the students synthesize the knowledge in new ways.

Guide the students to Elena's Crossword where they will attempt to find a food from each group while avoiding bad food choices.

Assessment:
Were the students able to fill in Elena's entire crossword correctly? Did they have trouble with any of the clues? Have the group discuss any of the clues that were hard to answer. Can they come up with other clues that would have given them the same answers?

Note: The crossword puzzles and their Answer Keys are also available for print in the Free Printables section.
