Calculate Your Child’s BMI-for-age Percentile

As a parent, you may want to know what your child's BMI score. We have a quick and easy tool that will do all the calculations for you. But first you must weigh your child with a reliable, balanced scale and measure their height. Use our BMI-for-age tool, it will automatically calculate the BMI score and percentile for you.

Calculate your child’s BMI percentile. Remember this is just a tool, a pediatrician or registered dietitian can help you make a final determination if your child needs to lose weight.

Please note that a BMI score is not a good indicator of a child’s weight status. A BMI-for-age must be calculated. Even if their percentile is high, further assessment is needed to determine if your child is at an unhealthy weight and what is the best course of action.

Because children are growing and their brain and organs are still developing, they need a certain amount of calories and nutrients. That is why it is not recommended that a parent simply place a child on a diet designed for adults. Often times, simple changes in eating habits and activity will take care of the excess weight because the child is growing. That is why it is very important to always consult with a pediatrician or pediatric dietitian.
