When you are creating your shopping list, think about the five food groups.  

These are the foods on My Plate, that provide the nutrition your family needs.

Finding The Five Food Groups In The Grocery Store

The grocery store is organized very much like the five food groups.  Here are where you can find the food groups.

Vegetable food group
Produce Aisle
Canned Goods 
Freezer Aisle
Salad Bar
Buy a variety of colors especially green leafy and orange vegetables.
Fruit food group
Produce Aisle
Canned Goods
Freezer Aisle

Pasta, Rice & Bean Aisle
Buy a variety of colors.  It is better to eat fruit.  If you are buying juice buy 100% fruit juice.

Look for 100% whole grains.

Refrigerated Aisle
Select lowfat (1%) and fat-free dairy foods.

Snack Isle
