Olympics Events great time to get kids involved in activities

Posted on Jul 27, 2012 by Maggie LaBarbera

Tonight is opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Schedule of events. An exciting and patriotic time for everyone and a great time to get the family active.

You can host your own neighborhood Olympics during or after the Olympics have finished.  Everyone will be talking Olympics and excited to participate.  And you might be surprised how easy it can be!

Think of some of your favorite activities and make a list of 5 or more events.

Plan your Saturday or best day to host your Olympic Day event.

Get your neighborhood families or local community groups involved.  Next divide up into teams.

Get a poster board to write up events and teams.  Before you start, have the kids do a crafts night and make the medals.  Directions on how to make a medal.

Assign points for each event, winner, second place and third place.

After you are done with your events, host a medal and award ceremony.  Make it a potluck with salads, lowfat cheese and whole grain crackers and fruits.  Don't forget the water bottles.

You can use boxes or crates for winners to stand on.

Here are just some ideas.  But really, it can be any activity that your kids will enjoy.                               olympics
