Posted on Sep 22, 2010 by Maggie LaBarbera

This week is "Turn off the TV week".

A great opportunity to help the kids divert TV time to other fun activities.

  • This helps kids realize that there are plenty of fun activities they can enjoy beside TV.
  • And guess what, they can live without the TV for a while!
If you haven't started, it is not too late (and really never too late to help kids be active!)   We are here with some specific tips on how to get the kids on board and some fun agreements for kids to sign just to make it "official"!

Step 1:  Talk with the kids.  Here is a simple guide on how to get the family onboard and turn off the TV and reduce screen time.

Step 2:  have the whole family sign a fun agreement to "Take the challenge and turn off the TV!"

Step 3:  Review our list of fun indoor and outdoor activities for ideas of things to do! PDF with 50 fun indoor and outdoor activities

Step 4:  Have FUN!

After Turn off the TV Week limit screen time to under 2 hours a day. We have a printable to help your child track their television viewing hours and set healthier goals to limit screen time. Print our Reducing Kids TV Time Weekly Tracking Chart a free coloring printable for your child to fill out to help reduce their daily TV hours and an easy way for parents to track and monitor their television program choices.
