New WIC guidelines gives families healthier choices.
The new guidelines for WIC, the government sponsored Women, infants and children’s nutrition program, went into effect on October 1.
I am really happy to see that now families will be allocated WIC coupons to buy fresh fruits and vegetables for the first time ever!
The list will include more whole grains and WIC families will be able to get soy-based beverages and tofu. Families can also buy canned tuna and salmon.
The new MyPyramid guidelines came out in 2005 and it is good news that our nutrition programs for families will begin to align with healthier eating.

Just found your blogsite as I was wandering the net. Australia could use an initiative like this. Coupons to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, soy products and canned fish seems so simple however Autralians are just given sums of money to spend however they like. I hope I am wrong , however I am pretty sure many have a great television set however their children have not seen a piece of fruit or a wholegrain for days.
I will be back

Containing three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber,
a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.
No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.
But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit.
It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions,
making it a must to add to our daily diet.
