Wednesday Nourishing Graphics:

We are happy to share this infographic that further tells the story about the nourishing value of understanding food marketing manipulation.

I have been talking this week about food marketing and how they have really gotten this down to a science.  They have studied and proven that by positioning their products in certain locations, enhancing packaging and using seductive phrases, they can get you to purchase food items that you did not plan or want to purchase.

We would think that as adults, we are in control and very wary of the marketing ploys used by food manufacturers.  But, again, we are reminded that we really are not so in control as we think.  With the holidays coming down on us, it will be even more important to be mindful of food marketing.

So please, don't make the mistake of thinking you are above their marketing skills. Arm yourself with knowledge and strategies we have shared with you.  One of the most important strategies is to really plan your menu for the week and determine what you need before you go into the store.  This simple action, creating a food shopping list, will help you avoid the temptations of last minute, unexpected, unplanned, and often coerced buying - stick to your list!  It really is just that simple.

And the other simple strategy you can use is to not go grocery shopping while you are hungry.  Always go after you have eaten.  The power of hunger can really make you susceptible to those marketing advertisements.  Everything just seems just a little more delicious when you are hungry!

But this is perfect as this infographic speaks to the spending traps that are waiting for you in the grocery store!  But more importantly, how to navigate the supermarket so you can stick to your healthy grocery shopping list and buy what you intended to buy.  Good luck!
