Put on your dance shoes and get your groove on - National Dance day

Posted on Jul 20, 2015 by Maggie LaBarbera

This week on July 25, it is national dance day sponsored by Dizzy Feet organization.

I am a big fan of "So You Can Dance".  I love the message that it sends and I personally love dancing so this show has done so much promoting the art and "sport" of dancing.  It really takes just as much committment and hard work to be a great dancer as it does to be an athlete.

It is great family entertainment and i can enjoy this with my kids, my husband, my mom and my grandchild.  It really crosses all the generations.  And what a fun way to be active.  So many different types of music to choose from and different dance styles.  Really, just get up and do what feels natural when the music comes on!

So if you would like to participate in the national dance day, there are events happening all over.

Monday’s Nourishing Thought:

When you have fun moving, it is not exercise!

Here is one of the routines you can learn!

About the organization*:
Launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity. NDD achieved national recognition when Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, announced at a press conference on July 31, 2010, in Washington, D.C., that she was introducing a congressional resolution declaring the last Saturday in July to be the country’s official National Dance Day.
