National School Breakfast Week reminds us to Take Time For School Breakfast

It's National School Breakfast week and a reminder to us all about the most important meal of the day!

The  2014 theme is "Take Time for School Breakfast"

Here are some facts about children and School Breakfasts:

  • The National School Breakfast program is operated in over 80,000 schools
  • Over 8.2 million children participate in the School Breakfast program
  • Studies show that students who skip breakfast generally*
    • have slower memory recall,
    • make more errors
    • are more likely to be absent or tardy and to repeat a grade.
  • ​Students who eat breakfast have higher math and verbal fluency scores*
  • Students who eat breakfast generally have better vitamin and nutrient intake, enjoy overall healthier diets and are less prone to being overweight or obese.* 
  • On any given day, 51% of kids go to school without breakfast*
So overall, eating breakfast helps children do better in school, improve their behavior and minimize tardiness and absenteeism.
 
Celebrate this week by ensuring the children in your life go to school with breakfast.
